For most businesses, it is now clear that without digitalisation, long-term growth is unthinkable, the single generation y and z reader who grew up on the internet might think. But the reality is more nuanced than that: although digitalisation is essential, fewer businesses than necessary are aware of it, and this is creating a big gap in success.

Surveys on domestic SMEs

According to last year's Digital Economy and Society Index report, cited by Századvég Economic Research, Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises were less able to integrate digital technologies than expected, ranking Hungary only 26th among EU countries in this respect. Although digital technologies are slowly becoming inevitable in some sectors, it is only large companies or those able to integrate them into large production chains that are able to put them into practice. This is why companies that are able to make effective use of the opportunities offered by digitalisation can gain a huge competitive advantage among small and medium-sized enterprises. Historical experience shows that companies that fail to keep pace with developments will be marginalised, while other, more modern companies will be better able to meet the demands of consumers and new ways of working.

Competition in digitisation

Whether it's the general technological digitisation of a company or the way it manages documents digitisation, the size of the firm can be a watershed in the application of new technologies. After all, if the number of employees exceeds a certain number and the volume of work increases dramatically, finding more efficient ways of doing things will be essential to keep the company running quickly and accurately.
